What is a long-distance relationship?

But first, let us define a long-distance relationship? A long-distance relationship or LDR as it is commonly called is a relationship between two people who are not in the same geographical location. Usually, it is a relationship in which one of the partners is far away from the other person. Long-distance relationships can be a difficult nut to crack. You can learn more about it here.

However, for this article, let us take a look at the rules for making a long-distance relationship work.

Golden Rules for Making A Long Distance Relationship Work

1: Be honest

Honestly is the key to any successful relationship. No matter how much you try, if you are not built for a long-distance relationship, you might fail. You need to remember that a long-distance relationship is not for the faint-hearted.

2: Know that there is a temporary distance

Most people love the idea of being close to someone they are in love with. We want the touch, the feel, the feeling of being near that one special person. Unfortunately in an LDR, this is not the case. There is a temporary distance that separates you and it is something you have to learn to accept and deal with.

3: Avoid excessive communication

People’s love languages are different. Some love to communicate and talk for hours nonstop. However, in a long-distance relationship, you need to avoid excessive communication. This does not mean that you won’t talk but it means that you may not be able to afford to jump on the phone every single day to talk on end.

Rather what you should do is create a schedule and stick to it. This will make the communication better, more effective and you will get to talk about things that matter rather than just mere talk.

4: Be sure you have found a soul mate

When in a long-distance relationship, you need to be convinced your partner is the right person for you.

A long-distance relationship is more than body attraction or plans sexual chemistry attraction. In a long-distance relationship, you need someone whom even when you feel frustrated, when you make mistakes or when you are sad and angry; you need someone who will still be there for you.
